This morning, Tova picked me up in a taxi with a friend of hers who was going to have one of Tova's paintings framed. We went first to the frame shop, where there was a lot of bickering about the color of the frame and the mat, followed by some awful tea (or coffee, I'm not sure) with the Arab store owner. From the frame shop, we walked to the Artist's House, a small gallery in a building that was formerly the art school Tova attended as a young woman in Jerusalem. Today, there are works by current students of the adjacent art school, along with photographs from the school in the 1920s and 30s. There were also a number of "ancient" (according to Tova) photographs of turn-of-the-century Jerusalem, including one group picture that showed a very young
David Ben-Gurion.
