For my mom:
The Magen David Adom (or, Red Star of David) is the Israeli equivalent of the American Red Cross. It is Israel's primary emergency, disaster relief, and blood supply agency. Magen David Adom was denied membership in the International Red Cross in the 1930s because it refused to change the Star of David to a cross, but the two organizations do maintain a working relationship. The American Red Cross has withheld financial support from the International Red Cross in protest over this exclusion and hegemony of Christian symbols. I'm sure if you wanted to come to Jerusalem and coordinate volunteers for Magen David Adom, the Nashville Red Cross would help transfer you!
